Arms trafficking, photos of criminal group arrested in Tirana emerge

Photos of the arrested persons as part of a criminal group involved in arms trafficking have been released. Journalist Xhensila Kodra has provided BalkanWeb with photos of the arrested persons. They are citizens; Marsel Varka, 35 years old; Elsaed Maqinaj, 25 years old; Fabian Zako, 29 years old and Kristaq Biba, 32 years old. The verifications carried out have shown that the six persons involved in this phase of the operation are part of two different criminal groups that collaborated in this field. Other members of these two groups had previously been arrested in flagrante delicto by blue uniforms during previous actions.

Investigators have also documented the prices that members of this network charged on the black market for the sale of weapons. Pistols were sold by them for prices ranging up to 1,500 euros, while Kalashnikov-type automatic weapons were worth up to 2,500 euros, depending on the orders. The group had set up a network spread across the field and the bases where they operated or kept the weapons were located in several different areas of Tirana, which meant that the activity often changed location to escape police surveillance.

The operation continues to capture two wanted citizens, Kevin Vila and Bledar Avdillari, as well as to fully document other persons involved in this illegal activity.
