Netanyahu will officially run for this year's elections, despite Trump's doubts

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will officially run in this year's elections, despite doubts previously expressed by US President Donald Trump.
The news was confirmed by his party, Likud, which in a brief statement announced that Netanyahu “will be a candidate and, if all goes well, will win.” The date for the election has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be held by October.
Earlier, Donald Trump had stated in an interview that he was not sure whether Netanyahu would run for re-election.
"I don't know, he's had an incredible career. Does he want to continue?" he said.
These will be the first elections in Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, an event that shook the country's security and led to the war in the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu's term has been marked by strong political tensions. Since returning to power in late 2022, he has faced major protests against his government and criticism of his policies.
Polls show that his coalition may not secure a majority in the upcoming elections. A large part of public opinion is also against his re-election.
However, even the opposition faces difficulties in creating a stable majority without cooperation with Arab parties, a scenario that some leaders have ruled out.
Meanwhile, relations between Netanyahu and Trump remain close, despite occasional tensions, especially regarding developments in the Middle East and Israel's military operations.
