Enrichment of school libraries, Manastirliu: Over 20,000 books for students

On the eve of the holidays, the distribution of art books has started, with the aim of enriching school libraries, a program initiated and supported by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, from the " Ardian Klosi " school in Tirana, said that this program aims to promote reading and cultivate a love for books among students.

" We are starting from the "Ardian Klosi" school a several-year program for the enrichment of school libraries in our schools throughout the country. There are more than 20,000 books that are being shared in school libraries to enrich, but above all to encourage the passion for reading and to give the messages that we want to transmit, especially at this time when we have a great effort to encouraging children and students to read. Besides all that technology offers us, we are here to do our best in terms of increasing knowledge, but also opening the mind through reading ," said Manastirliu.

As Minister Manastirliu stated, this program includes over 20,000 books, selected from a list of 764 titles by Albanian and foreign authors.

The list was compiled by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MAS) in collaboration with teachers, specialists in the field and publishing houses. Among the representative authors are Aeschylus, Shakespeare, Balzac, Hugo, Tolstoy, Orwell, Dickens, Pasternak, Kundera, Barleti, Konica, Fishta, Mjeda, Çajupi, Migjeni, Serembe, Kadare, Kongoli, Arapi, etc.

" We are on the eve of the holidays and there is no better gift than a book. Therefore, we have decided to finalize this program, which we initiate every year, on the eve of the holidays, where we ourselves enrich the school libraries, but give students the opportunity during the winter holidays to take books from the library to read during the holidays and then to discuss the issues they have read in class," Manastirliu said.

For the first time, schools have used the SMIP platform for the selection of book titles, guaranteeing an open and efficient process, based on the needs and shortages of their libraries.

" We managed to have a very important process of selecting book titles, since for the first time this process is done through the SMIP system, where all schools that participate in the book selection process do it electronically. This makes it possible not only to enrich the school library with different titles, but on the other hand, it also enables a complete list of the book fund that we have in the school libraries, where in addition to the books that support the educational program, there are also many books of other artistic works that enrich the library and encourage students' passion for reading and books that should be stimulated by the school but also by the family ," Manastirliu declared.
