February 20 – The Day of Broken Dreams!

Today, 34 years ago, we, the youth of Tirana, and our parents overthrew the symbol of a dictatorship that had oppressed and persecuted us for decades.
It was a day of hope, a day of courage, a day when we believed that we would finally be free, that Albania would become like Europe, that democracy and justice would prevail.
But today, when we look back, many of those dreams remain unrealized and broken.
" And there is nothing more terrible than broken dreams. We find them all along the road, bleeding not the feet with which we step on them, but the heart with which we love them." - says Kadare
Europe is still a long way off. Our democracy is paralyzed. The rights and freedoms we fought for are still not guaranteed for the majority of Albanians. Instead of dictatorship, we have an oligarchy that controls the economy and power. Citizens feel powerless in the face of corruption and injustice.
But the Albania of 2025 cannot give up! History has taught us that change comes when honest people think, reflect, rebel forcefully against their own thoughts and attitudes, and demand what is rightfully theirs.
For this reason, I am running in the May 11 elections because I believe that Albania can and should become like Europe, not just in words, but in deeds!
Today we commemorate February 20, 1991, not just as a day from the past, but as a call to action today!
Albania deserves more!
