After eight months without a response, the residents of Hotolisht have today blocked the road segment that passes through the village, in protest against the lack of transparency for the Elbasan-Qafë Thanë axis project.

Residents are demanding immediate clarification about the road, which, according to them, in its current version foresees the demolition of around 30 houses.

They propose the construction of a tunnel, which would have minimal impact on community life and the surrounding environment.

Protesters are also concerned about the compensation offered by the state, describing it as insufficient to rebuild their homes.

Another critical point is land compensation, for which the current price of 174 lek per square meter is, according to them, unacceptable.

Residents' anger has also been focused on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku. They express disappointment that Balluku did not respond to a call for a meeting this Tuesday, although her visit had been announced earlier.

Minister Balluku’s action of not coming and explaining to these residents is a huge absurdity ,” said a resident of the area. The protesters warned of a boycott of the May 11 elections if a fair and transparent decision is not made about the project.
