Quarrel between prisoners in Italy, Albanians force open rivals' cells

Several prisoners were involved in a massive brawl at Bassone prison in Como, where there were also Albanians among them.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, when a group of ten Albanian prisoners managed to force open an internal gate that separated their section from that of their rivals, three prisoners of North African origin.

But the action was interrupted by prison police officers. Four of the officers, who were injured, were treated in the emergency room of the Sant'Anna hospital in Como .

To restore calm, Como prison police have received reinforcements from Milan.

Six out of ten Albanian prisoners were transferred today to the prisons of Opera, Vigevano and Cremona.

The reasons for the clash are thought to be previous disagreements between the two groups.
