Berisha promised to overthrow Rama, but he is 'overthrowing' the DP commissioners

When Sali Berisha took over the leadership of the Democratic Party with the force of pressure and the rhetoric of the "savior", many Democrats hoped for Rama's overthrow. But after the May 11 elections, the panorama is clearer than ever. Under Berisha's leadership, the DP was crushed like never before, deepening the crisis within itself.

The result of May 11 is a slap in the face to all those who thought that change came through violence, force and division. If we compare the votes received with those of 2021, it is quite clear that the DP led by Berisha has lost not only the trust of the citizens, but also its own structures.

But this situation does not stop there, because when talking about the "electoral farce" they rely only on a few fragmented videos, which create more fog than they really clarify what happened. They do not constitute clear evidence of manipulation, but highlight another deeper and older problem of the electoral system in Albania: the extreme politicization of the entire process, from organization to administration.

What is most worrying is that according to Berisha's own claims, the manipulations and irregularities occurred under the noses of the Democratic Party's own commissioners. If these individuals allowed or participated in vote theft, as was proven in the case of Dibra or Durrës, then what legitimacy remains for the leadership that appointed them and that hoped to overthrow the corrupt government with this administrative 'body'?

In this sense, it is not Rama who is being brought down by Berisha's denunciations, but the DP's own commissioners who are being denounced, discredited and dismissed day after day by Berisha's own statements. And if these commissioners have acted in a coordinated manner to influence the outcome of the elections, then one must ask: who led them? Because nothing happens by chance in Albanian politics, especially on election day.

Berisha promised to overthrow Edi Rama, but he is doing nothing but overthrowing the DP from within, at a pace that even the most ardent opponents would not have imagined.
