Cardiologist: Sports do not cause heart disease, on the contrary, they prevent it

On hot summer days, the heart works harder, increasing the risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems.
Cardiologist Aurel Demiraj said that rising temperatures increase cardiovascular problems, as the body tries to adapt by increasing the work of the cardiac muscles, thus increasing the probability of patients having problems.
The doctor said that aspirin for the heart is recommended for people with these problems, as it helps, but it is not a hero. Regarding heart disease in young people and how sports activity affects them, he said that sports, apart from positive effects, have no negative effects on athletes, and the numbers of athletes with problems are the same in all periods.
He emphasized that sport is only helpful for these diseases.
"If we go back in time, there were athletes who lost their lives on the field. Are there more? No."
Younger ages don't get cardiovascular disease simply because the years have changed, or they don't get more cardiovascular disease in 2025 than before – the percentage is the same.
But what should we tell parents: if someone does sports correctly, the probability of having a cardiovascular problem is zero. It's not the sport that causes it, but the opposite.
"Sport prevents these diseases and we must remember the basic things that people forget: smoking, alcohol use, diet, and all of these increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, a correct lifestyle is effective in preventing these diseases," said the doctor during an interview with Euronews Albania.
