Mohamed Al-Fayed's cause of death is revealed in the late family's

Egyptian-British millionaire Mohamed Al Fayed, formerly the owner of the Harrods luxury department store chain in London and Fulham FC football club, died on Thursday night at the age of 94, his family announced.

They added in the statement that the millionaire had died of "old age" while asking that their privacy be respected in this difficult time.

But its demise brings back into focus the death of son Dodi Fayed, the Egyptian film producer who lost his life alongside Princess Diana in the infamous Paris crash in 1997, which Al Fayed has repeatedly said they were "killed in a conspiracy of the British royal establishment", writes the local network TheMirror.

The businessman's relationship with the royal family was recently depicted in a multi-season series called The Crown, which tells how Al Fayed, played by Salim Daw, met Diana, took control of the Harrods group in 1985, having bought the Ritz hotel in Paris in 1979.

The London Premier League club wrote in its statement: "All of us at Fulham are saddened by the death of the former manager and the team's assets, filled with gratitude for what he has done for the club."

Renowned British gas major Piers Morgan also paid tribute to Mr Fayed. As he wrote on social networks: "RIP Mohamed Al-Fayed, a man known for his strength, although he never got over the death of his son alongside Princess Diana. He was not a man who could be liked by everyone, as he had a complex character, there were also mistakes, but for me he was more than likable".
