120 years old / History of "Cadillac Motor Company", (GM), the luxury

Celebrates the 120th anniversary of its creation (August 22, 1902), the famous luxury car company "Cadillac Motor Company", which changed the world in this field.

The Cadillac Motor division is a division of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors, (GM), that designs and builds luxury vehicles.

Its main markets are the United States, Canada and China. Cadillac products are distributed in 34 other markets worldwide. Cadillac automobiles are at the forefront of luxury cars within the United States. In 2019, Cadillac achieved record sales of 390,458 vehicles worldwide.

Cadillac is among the first automobile brands in the world, fourth in the United States behind the Autocar Company (1897) and other GM brands Oldsmobile (1897) and Buick (1899). It was named after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac (1658-1730), who founded Detroit, Michigan. Cadillac's logo is based on its coat of arms.

By the time General Motors bought the company in 1909, Cadillac was already one of the leading luxury car manufacturers in America. The complete interchangeability of its precision parts had made it possible to lay the foundations of modern mass production of automobiles.

Cadillac was at the forefront of technological advancements, introducing full electric systems, slipless manual transmissions and steel roofs. Its V8 engine set the standard for the American automobile industry.

Cadillac had the first American car to win the Dewar Trophy of the Royal Automobile Club of the United Kingdom by successfully demonstrating during a reliability test in 1908 the interchangeability of its component parts; from where the company's slogan "The Standard of the World" originates.

It won the trophy again in 1912 for the incorporation of ignition and electric lighting in automobile production./ Prepared by Sokol Neçaj.
