The format of the First Category also changes starting from the 2027/2028 edition, the EC approves the decision

At the last meeting of the Executive Committee, one of the approved decisions related to the proposal from the Competition Department to change the format of the "First Category" championship for the 2027/2028 and 2028/2029 football seasons, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of the championships and maintaining sporting interest throughout the season.
The Racing Department has proposed that this edition will not have any changes and that the championship continue according to the format with 3 regular stages and 33 championship weeks.
1st and 2nd place in the First Category will automatically advance to the "Abissnet Superiore" championship.
The teams ranked 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in the First Category play-off will play the semi-final phase according to the 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 scheme. The winners of the pairs will face off in the final and the winner of this final will advance to the "Abissnet Superiore" category in the next season.
The finalist team will face off in a decisive match with the third place from the bottom of the "Abissnet Superiore" play-out to determine the team that will participate in the football elite in the next edition.
Meanwhile, for the 2027/2028 and 2028/2029 editions, it has been proposed that the championship scheme be the same in structure as the "Abissnet Superiore" championship scheme.
Under the new format, the championship will be held in two regular phases, with 12 teams playing over 22 weeks. After the end of the regular phase, the teams will be divided into two groups according to their ranking. The points accumulated during the regular phase will be halved before the start of the play-off and play-out phases.
The top six teams will compete in the play-off phase, where they will play home-and-away matches, for a total of 10 weeks of competition. The team ranked in first place will be declared the champion of the 2027/2028 edition and will automatically advance to the “Abissnet Superiore”. The team ranked in second place in the play-off will also advance to the elite championship.
Also, the six teams ranked in the bottom half of the table will play in a 10-week home-and-away play-off. The two teams ranked in the bottom two places will automatically be relegated to the Second Division for the following season.
The teams ranked 3rd and 4th from the penultimate play-out stage in the First Category will play matches with the play-off teams of the Second Category, Groups A and B.
