Invited to Euronews Albania, Ervin Salianji, speaking about his tour of meetings with the Democrats, was asked by journalist Mirela Milori if he aspires to be the leader of the Democratic Party.
He said that there is nothing wrong with someone having ambitions to run, as this moves the party forward. However, he stated that his meetings with the Democrats are unrelated to this, as he aims for the DP to be a winning party, while emphasizing that he has not announced any platform to be at the head of the party.
"This should not be called a division. I am asking for the DP to be a winning party, by establishing some principles. Where am I asking for anything? Have I announced anything? Have I announced a platform of how it will be or how I will do it? I am listening to the Democrats. Where is the division here? Let's come to the other element, if someone had ambitions to run, ambition leads forward, what's the problem? You only strengthen a party, because it puts it in competition. The principle is this, was the DP list representative or not? Were the statutory norms implemented that the most voted ones be on the lists of deputies? I have a relationship with the Democrats and I will continue to express my opinions, what are my convictions," he said. Salianji also explained the purpose of his tour of meetings with the Democrats, saying that the goal is to unite the DP to have a winning party.
"We should not agree with the logic of taking a few MPs and staying in the opposition. From election to election we are going down the drain. Should I not say this now? These meetings are showing and have set the DP on a different rhythm. This movement has achieved some goals, the DP has woken up from this movement. It has set up a kind of competition. What harm does the DP have from this? You have seen them, they have all started to come out.
Did people come out on the ground? Do we have a revival of the DP? Did Mr. Berisha say that we will have a separation of functions in the Electoral Assembly, of the parliamentary group from the party? It has produced some positive elements. Has the attention gone to the DP? The DP has no fear of our movement, but to see if what we are saying holds up? I am not for a salary, I have an obligation to move and not to stay. People who receive a salary are blowing up the divisions, those who are paid by the Democrats. We must return the merit, to open the party. I have also sacrificed freedom, others their work, businesses. We are the DP, we have sacrificed, not those who have benefited" , said Salianji.
