"Erion Veliaj has been mistreated", Berisha defends the mayor: During the visit, Manja was accompanied by the businessman

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted directly to the situation of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who has been in prison since February 10.

In a statement to the media, after leaving SPAK, Berisha said that "the witnesses have changed their positions after they went to the office of Prime Minister Edi Rama", claiming that they were influenced in the statements given against Veliaj.

However, Berisha stated that the rights of every person, whether unconvicted or convicted, are guaranteed by the Constitution, adding that Erion Veliaj has been mistreated and this is "unacceptable."

"I have the worst regard for Veliaj, but his rights are not determined by my will. They are guaranteed by the Constitution," Berisha stressed.

Berisha: For Erion Veliaj, the witnesses said that after they went to Rama's office, they gave testimonies that prove to me the truth of the terrible thefts they committed. However, every unconvicted and convicted person has a set of rights that must be respected. They behaved in the most unacceptable way with Erion Veliaj. I have the worst regard for Veliaj, but his rights are not determined by my will, his rights are guaranteed by the Constitution. Taking over Rama's office and publishing unwritten statuses by Erion Veliaj... could have happened during the time of state security. What was the need to write statuses that Olsi Dado is such and such, at a time when he was in trouble, Money was flowing out of Velica's cell. What was the need to do this? I tell you, there was a need because Rama wanted at all costs to anger the judges and prosecutors with him and keep him where he is. This is very reprehensible. It's a criminal offense.  They say they mistreated him.
