Former President Ilir Meta wants to be released from prison, lawyers request easing of security measures

The legal representatives of the President of the Freedom Party, Mr. Ilir Meta, have filed a request with the First Instance Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime with the object: Replacement of the security measure for President Ilir Metaj.

This request was submitted based on the fact that the Special Prosecution Office SPAK has completed the investigations against President Meta and since the need to continue to keep him in detention no longer has any procedural meaning.

Two days ago, SPAK officially communicated to Ilir Meta the closure of the investigations and the transfer of the file to the court.

Ilir Meta is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets, for matters related to the LSI lobbying file in the US and the CEZ-DIA affair.

The former President was arrested on October 21, 2024, and since that moment has been in pre-trial detention under the measure of "prison arrest".
