Albania enters the 21st day of a popular revolt against the 35-year-old corrupt political caste, the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama. Organizers are announcing the largest protest yet in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
Citizens from all over the country are expected to join the rally in Tirana, while a high turnout is also reported from the Albanian diaspora. Thousands of emigrants have traveled from various European countries to be present at today's protest, which is considered the culmination of civic mobilization after three weeks of non-stop demonstrations.
The protest has now transcended its initial cause and has become a broader movement against corruption, misgovernment, lack of accountability and the mass exodus of young people from the country. The participation of the diaspora is an indication that dissatisfaction with the government is not limited to the territory of Albania.
The rally is expected to start at 19:00 at 'Skënderbej' Square and then march towards the Prime Minister's Office.
