For the first time, an Albanian deputy in the Brussels Parliament

The voters of the Brussels region have marked a historic turning point by electing Kristela Bytyçin to the Brussels Parliament, where she will now be the first right-wing Albanian deputy under the banner of the Movement for Reform (MR). Her resounding victory symbolizes a political renewal for the Belgian-Albanian community, long dominated by the Socialist Party (SP).
Kristela Bytyçi, an emblematic figure of the Albanian right in Belgium, was able to gather a large part of the Albanian electorate in Brussels. Her dynamic campaign, which focused on integration, entrepreneurship and security, has been well received. 'After so many years of monopoly by the SP, our right-wing voice is finally being heard. This is a return to the ideological roots of our community,' she said.
These elections mark a strong return of the Albanian right, which had long supported SP candidates mainly because of their Albanian origins. For almost twenty years, SP had secured the support of the majority of this community. However, this year, Albanian voters have shown a desire for change and new political perspectives.
Kristela Bytyçi's alliance with MR was decisive. David Leisterh, head of MR in Brussels, hailed these elections as 'a new chapter for Brussels and for our party'. He added: 'The election of Kristela Bytyç shows that our message of reform and progress resonates with all the communities of our capital.
Kristela is a strong woman, with strong political convictions, volunteer and hard worker. I have the deep conviction that you would represent the Albanian community within the Brussels Parliament in the most dignified way possible and would always protect the general interest.'
The ere MP is ready to take on the challenges that await her. 'We have a lot of work ahead of us. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Brussels Parliament to find concrete solutions to the problems of our citizens, especially in the areas of education, employment and security,' she said.
This victory also symbolizes a political maturity within the Albanian community in Brussels. For many people, the choice of Mrs. Bytyçi reflects the will of a community that has managed to impose itself and that is diversifying its political orientations. This achievement is considered by many Albanian-Belgian citizens as a sign of the essential transformation and political renewal of the Albanians of Belgium.
Under these conditions, the election of Kristela Bytyç is undoubtedly the most important political event of 2024 for Albanians in the Brussels Region. Breaking it from the twenty-year period of their representation by the Socialist Party in local institutions, Mrs. Bytyçi opens a new page for the Belgian-Albanian community, marking the return of the Albanian community to its historical identity of the traditional right.
The next challenge for the new Belgian-Albanian deputy in the Brussels Parliament will undoubtedly be the transformation of this victory into concrete and lasting actions for the benefit of all the citizens of the region and especially the Albanian community.
