SP MP criticizes the protest: They have neither narrative nor direction

Socialist MP Ilva Gjuzi has commented on the protests that began against the project in Zvërnec and that were later accompanied by political demands for the government's resignation.

Invited to the show "Off the Record", she said that the protest is made up of various interest groups and that, according to her, it has lost the clarity of the initial message.

Gjuzi emphasized that protest is a legitimate democratic right and that institutions have the obligation to listen to citizens and create spaces for dialogue.

However, she assessed that the movement is no longer articulating a clear stance and that its narrative has changed several times along the way.

Referring to the impact on the tourism sector, the MP stated that this is not the most appropriate moment for such protests, as the country is at the peak of the tourist season and any negative development could affect Albania's income and image as a tourist destination.

Regarding the accusations of attacks on influencers who have supported the protests, Gjuzi denied the existence of any instructions from the government, stating that he is unaware of such a thing.

"It is not a homogeneous group at all, it is a very mixed group, but we are there to listen to them. Protest is a legitimate democratic tool, but our responsibility is to listen to them and to create a space for perhaps and to have a dialogue. Then the issue of dialogue is that it requires two parties. You can't do it alone.

From the point of view of the development of that investment in the Zvërnec area, which I believe was the initial focus of the protest, I continue and follow that line.

Then I realized that the narratives of the streets have changed several times, or rather, a very clear narrative is not being articulated. From my point of view, protests at any time are definitely good for society, especially when there are young people who finally feel the need to be included in the political discourse.

But in terms of tourism, I don't think it's the best time, because as I said, this is the peak of the season and from an income point of view. The idea is that from season to season we try to repair some of those previous problems.

"I think that if the discussion as it began about the development of a certain area of the territory of the Republic of Albania with a foreign investment of a significant size and with a vision different from what has been done previously in Albania, I think that the more we talk about it, the more we talk about it with facts and in terms of improving the vision or the project concept idea," she said on A2 CNN.

Asked by the journalist if there is any guidance on how to hit influencers, she replied:  "If there is, tell me, because I haven't heard it yet."
