Three mayors come out against Rama: We will not fire anyone!
Two mayors stopped to speak to the media after meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama in Durrës, where the head of government was given a three-day ultimatum to dismiss all heads of administrative units.
Initially, Himara Mayor Vangjel Tavo stated that he would not dismiss the deputy mayors as Rama requested, as they have had very little time in office.
"Depending on performance, I am a new chairman. It is understood that they are still on probation, plus my vice-chairmen are new," Tavo told the media.
Even the mayor of Kavaja, Fisnik Qosja, declared that he will not obey Rama's orders, as according to him, the prime minister's ultimatum only applies to socialist leaders.
"Absolutely not. Performance is another thing. No, I won't fire them because of the prime minister, but because of the tourist season or something else... Absolutely not. I wasn't here politically, I was as mayor, so... He has it with his own people, he doesn't have it with mine," said Qosja.
Asked further whether he would implement the request, if the prime minister also addresses it to him, Qosja said: "Absolutely not. I will not listen to the prime minister about this decision."
"We are doing it," Qosja replied, when asked if he has conducted an analysis of the work of the directorates under the municipality he heads.
The Democratic mayor of Fushë-Arrëz, Hilë Curri, also spoke to A2CNN, stating that he will not implement Rama's ultimatum.
"I'm not dismissing the deputy mayors because they're doing a good job. This suggestion was only for the SP municipalities, it didn't apply to us conservatives," he said.
