Serbia votes on Sunday, students challenge Vučić's party with 250 candidates! Experts: Risk of unrest

After two years of protests, students in Serbia are preparing to challenge Aleksandar Vučić in Sunday's parliamentary elections, in what is considered the most serious challenge to him during his 12 years in power, characterized by increasingly authoritarian rule.
According to The Guardian, the student movement, organized into an electoral force called the "Student List", will compete with 250 candidates, with the aim of ending Vučić's control over Serbian politics.
The students are hoping to repeat the defeat suffered by Vučić's ally Viktor Orban in neighboring Hungary six months ago. Such a result could spark a domino effect and a democratic revival in Central Europe.
Polls have shown very mixed results, but many experts estimate that the race could be close. According to them, neither side seems willing to accept defeat as a legitimate result, which increases the risk of unrest and clashes after the election.
To win, the list of 250 student candidates will have to not only break the traditional model of Serbian politics, but also the control that Vučić has established over the country.
Vucic resigned from the presidency last month, five months before the end of his second and final term, according to the Constitution.
However, according to The Guardian, his departure from the presidency was intended to continue his stay in power, this time as prime minister at the head of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
