Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have ended their relationship once and for all.
"This time it seems final," a source told People.
The actress and singer, who tied the knot in October 2017, were last photographed together in mid-May in Malibu. Before that, they were photographed in India in January.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Johnson hinted that the split had happened. Asked about her latest role in “The Materialists” and what “made it feel different,” she said:
"The complexes of all the characters. The paradox. Everyone who feels confused about what to do with their heart and what the right move is. It seemed very honest to me and that I could find myself."
"For too long, we've been quick to judge relationships and how they should happen, how they should exist in the world, when people should get married, divorce is bad. All of these things actually when you think about it, why is divorce bad? Why do people have to get married or do it at a certain age or only once? Why? It doesn't matter," she continued.
In March 2024, a source said the couple had actually been engaged for "years" after rumors surfaced in 2020, but they were "in no rush to get married."
Later, in August, rumors of a breakup circulated again and the actress's representatives said the pair were "very happy together."
Meanwhile, a source said that Johnson and Martin "have had problems and taken breaks in the past," as they both "love their careers" and are "balancing things as best they can."
