They put her in a psychiatric hospital/ Genard Hajdini explodes about Sonida: They took my sister
In an ordinary neighborhood of Tirana, where afternoons are usually spent chatting with residents or having coffee, lived Genard and Sonida Hajdini. To the residents they are known as two neighbors who stayed at their jobs and lived peacefully. To social networks they are known as famous characters or the phenomenon of "good things, beautiful things", "danoçat" and many other spontaneous fights.
But behind them lies a deeper story, a story that has currently ended up in a psychiatric hospital.
"They were quiet people, they lived well as long as they had their father. He took care of them, took their medicine on time. There were a few times that Genardi would go out on the stairs wearing inappropriate clothes, but Sonida was very calm, in her own way. Until recently, she even taught online about the world. She was very polite," says a resident.
"The day they came to pick up Sonida, he was at the neighborhood market downstairs shopping. He often bought cold coffee in cans. When he found out what was happening, he just shouted: "They took my sister!" He ran and looked inside the ambulance. Sonida had not yet gotten off. He went upstairs and then they both got off. Sonida was taken by the ambulance, Genard by the police," says another.
"People have always been interested in them. When they had problems, many people would come to ask. They even brought food. Both were good people. They had their own troubles and sufferings. But how did they do anything human? I was very sorry that they took them to a psychiatric hospital," emphasizes another resident.
Their story begins in the late 1990s, in a turbulent Albania. Their mother tragically lost her life from a stray bullet while on the balcony of their house. They were children, a loss that, according to people who knew them, left an indelible mark on their lives. However, Genardi and Sonida did not give up. They excelled in school, they left for the United States, where they were praised for their academic achievements, studies in biochemistry, philosophy, foreign languages, and multiple master's degrees.
Later they returned to Albania, living together. A simple life between shopping, cooking, books and videos on Instagram. Their motto, "good things, beautiful things", went viral. People loved them for their sincerity and spontaneity, but online success did not erase the deep wounds. A few months ago they also lost their father, the man who, according to the neighbors, was their main support. Another heavy blow.
A few days ago, Genardi published on social networks images of his sister in a serious condition. The video quickly spread. After the publication, social services, medical staff and police intervened. According to official verifications, no elements of violence were found, while it was clarified that the video was posted to attract attention on social networks. The images were immediately deleted.
Currently, Genardi and Sonida are hospitalized in the psychiatric hospital of Tirana, where they are receiving specialized treatment. The case has been referred to the prosecutor's office, while social institutions have begun drafting a monitoring and support plan from a phenomenon that makes us smile on the phone screen to a fragile reality that requires professional help.
Their story is a reminder that unhealed trauma does not disappear with time, that social media is not always a complete reflection of someone's life, that behind every "story" there may be a story that needs support more than likes.
Silence reigns in this neighborhood today, but the message remains clear: Empathy and timely intervention can be salvation, and good must be sought and protected, especially when someone fails to do it themselves.
