Bayern are alarmed, the defender risks the duel with Inter

Bayern Munich centre-back Kim Min-jae will be out for several weeks with an Achilles tendon injury, coach Vincent Kompany said on Friday. The injury rules him out of Saturday's trip to Union Berlin, along with South Korea's World Cup qualifiers against Oman and Jordan later in March.

“Min-jae is injured,” Kompany told a news conference, adding: “I hope it won’t be long, but he will be out for a few weeks.” The coach said the defender was “struggling with his Achilles tendon.” “We hope he will be available at some point, but we have to make sure we don’t overdo the workload he has already had.

"We hope it's not something too serious," the Belgian said. Kim joined from then-Italian champions Napoli in the summer of 2023 and has made 73 appearances for Bayern in all competitions. This season, he has played in 23 of the 26 games for the Bavarians, starting every time. Bayern captain Manuel Neuer returned to individual training on Friday but will not be ready in time for the Union match.

German tabloid Bild reported that Neuer would "without a doubt" return for the Bavarians' Champions League quarter-final first leg against Inter Milan on April 8. As for Union, Kompany said:

"The Berliners are a team that lives for special moments. They have an interesting way of moving the ball at the beginning of a phase. They go straight to the strikers or midfielders, who then fight for second balls. It's little moments of chaos that can bring energy, especially in home games.

"They try to defend in a compact way. We know their quality and we need our best performance, then there is a chance to win." In the Bundesliga, Bayern sit first in the table, eight points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
