Abandoned Serbia and chose to play for Kosovo, the Serbian media attack the footballer

Football player Arton Zekaj played for U15, U16 and U17 of Serbia. He was considered a great talent and after Partizan Belgrade and several other teams in Serbia, he was transferred to Lila in France. 

The 23-year-old, born in Subotica, meanwhile joined Kosovo U21. He had played five matches in 2019 and 2020, while in one of them he was the captain. 

But his career did not develop as expected. In 2022, Zekaj returned to Serbia, namely to Vojvodina. Played for the low level team Tisa Adorjan. He has been without a team since then. 

And the fact that he is without a team, and especially that he had left Serbia to play for Kosovo, has caused the Serbian media to attack the footballer Zekaj. 

"Arton Zekaj was once the captain of Serbia and then moved to the so-called Kosovo, now he has almost disappeared from the football map", is the title of a Serbian medium. 

"He played for Serbia, then appeared for Kosovo and was left without a club", writes "nova.rs". 

"Arton Zekaj chose the so-called Kosovo before Serbia and now he doesn't play anywhere", is the headline of "blic.rs". 

In the headlines of other media it was written that Zekaj betrayed Serbia, while in general the approach of the Serbian media was offensive towards the footballer. 

"I have proudly decided to accept the jersey of Kosovo. I know that my parents and the people of Kosovo will be proud of me. I also know that the man who is no longer among us, Fadil Vokrri, would also be proud", Zekaj had declared after accepting Kosovo's invitation. 

With Kosovo U21 Zekaj had played against England, Austria, Andorra, Albania and Turkey. He was captain against Albania.
