First-time Formula 1 World Champion, Norris in tears: I knew I didn't break any rules

Lando Norris has spoken after the historic triumph that gave him his first Formula 1 championship title, recounting the emotions, pressure and challenges of the final race of the season.
The McLaren driver admitted that during the race he couldn't completely get the fact that he was fighting for the title out of his mind: "A bit of both... I was thinking about it, I couldn't help but think about it. But I knew the race was going to be long until the last lap. In Formula 1 we've seen everything happen, so I kept pushing until the last two or three laps, where I could calm down a bit."
Norris added that the competition this season has been relentless: "I wanted to fight until the end, and we did. It's been like that all year, with Max Verstappen constantly chasing us, with Oscar Piastri coming close again at the end... it didn't make my life easy."
The British driver was also asked about the moment when he was reported to be under investigation during the race: "I had no idea, I didn't care. I knew everything I had done was fine. I was just trying to enjoy the moment. Not many people in the world — let alone in Formula 1 — experience what I experienced this season."
Norris, who spent nine years with the British team, expressed particular joy for the team: "It's been a long journey with McLaren. We've had hard times and good moments. To bring home the drivers' title after so many years feels like I've given something back to the team that believed in me. I'm very proud of that."
He closed with humor and emotion: "I am even more proud of those I hope I have made cry with joy."
