Italian media echo Jashari's promise: He gave the Albanian "trust" to Milan!
It seems that one of the greatest Albanian values, Besa, seems to have been ingrained in the Albanian talent who has become part of the Milan team, Ardor Jashari. Although of Albanian origin, Jashari grew up in Switzerland, but his Albanian cultural heritage has strongly influenced his decision-making.
According to Italian media, the footballer had given his word to the red and black club, and in the spirit of trust, he did not break his promise, despite higher financial offers from other clubs, including Club Brugge. For Jashari, a given word was worth more than a bigger contract.
Besa, an ancient concept still respected in Albania, is more than a promise. It is a pillar of Albanian morality, embodying honesty, trustworthiness, and personal honor. At the time when the Kanun was in force, besa even had legal value. Even today, a handshake can be as valid as a signature on a document.
In today's Albania, being called infidel, or "disloyal," is one of the most serious insults that can be inflicted on a person. It is a moral stigma that recalls the Latin terminology infidus or perfidus, much harsher than their modern translations.
Thanks to the faith, Albania has shown excellent examples of solidarity and honor, including the rescue of many Jews during the Holocaust, an act for which Albanians have been honored with the title "Righteous Among the Nations."
And now, in a completely different scenario, trust has been decisive again, this time on the football field. Milan have acquired the midfielder they have been looking for for a long time, while Ardon Jashari has shown that sometimes, a given word is worth more than any offer.
