Doping scandal in Paris, the athlete is excluded from the Olympic Games
An unidentified Greek athlete has been banned from the Olympics after testing positive for a banned substance, their team has announced.

The Greek Olympic Committee announced that the athlete has been expelled from the athletes' village pending further investigations into the matter.

Foreign media reports that the Greek team was informed of the positive test on Monday afternoon by the Greek anti-doping agency.

There have already been a number of controversial incidents at the 2024 Olympics in Paris this summer, with several athletes breaking the rules.

Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira was sent home by her team after sneaking out of the Olympic Village to celebrate with boyfriend Gabriel Santos in Paris.

While Santos was only given a stern warning by his national Olympic federation, Vieiras was handed a much harsher punishment, being sent home in disgrace. It was claimed that Vieira's "disrespectful" and "aggressive" reaction to the disciplinary measures was significant enough for the Brazilian Olympic Federation to send him home.

Meanwhile, the Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso has also left the Olympic Village after allegedly creating an 'inappropriate environment'. The decision came just days after she announced her retirement from swimming.
