Draw specifics/ The 2026 World Cup's sayings and unsayings

The 48 participating teams were divided into 12 groups of 4, drawn from 4 pots. Mexico, Canada and the United States were identified by different colored balls and assigned as seeded teams in Groups A, B and D, respectively, to ensure that they would play their group stage matches at home.

Mexico will play two games in Mexico City, including the opening game and one in Guadalajara. Canada will play the first game in Toronto and the other two in Vancouver, while the United States will open and close the group in Los Angeles, traveling to Seattle for the second game.

Furthermore, Spain and Argentina, the two highest-ranked teams in FIFA, were placed in opposite groups to ensure that they could only meet in a possible final if both advance as group winners.

The same criteria will apply to France, the defending runners-up, and England, ranked third and fourth in the world. The draw will also prevent countries from the same confederation – with the exception of UEFA, which has 16 qualified teams – from being placed in the same group.

While today's draw will determine the group stage matches, the final tournament schedule, including stadium and time details, will be released on Saturday morning.
