Liverpool fans win battle, club 'freezes' ticket price hike

Liverpool backtracks; after weeks of protests and negotiations with fan groups, the Anfield club decided to abandon a 3-year plan to increase ticket prices, announcing the achievement of a compromise; a 3% increase in ticket prices due to inflation for the 2026/27 season followed by a total freeze of this process for the following 2027/28 season.

According to the British tabloid 'Daily Mail', this total change came after what was seen in the last match that Liverpool played at Anfield when the entire facility became all yellow; thousands of fans displayed 'yellow cards' for the club's owners,   Fenway Sports Group, with the inscription 'Beware, the soul of Anfield is in danger' while there was no shortage of chants against the club's management.

In an official statement, Liverpool confirmed the agreement reached with the Supporters' Council, specifying that the 3% increase will only apply to general admission tickets and that no price increase is foreseen for the following season. The 'Spirit of Shankly' group, which was among the most active in this protest, had begun to think about new forms of pressure, including the hypothesis of leaving the stadium empty at the start of Saturday's match against Chelsea, in parallel with the "no pound in the ground" campaign, through which fans were invited not to spend anything on stadium businesses.

"We welcome the club's decision not to proceed with the three-year plan they previously announced," said the 'Spirit of Shankly' group, which highlighted how the protests had produced a concrete result. The group also called on Liverpool to explore alternative methods of generating revenue rather than passing the costs on to fans, a pledge the club has made publicly.
