Arrest of Tirana Road Chief and Two Police Officials/ Wiretaps Reveal Corruption

Two days ago, it was announced that three State Police officials had been arrested by order of the Special Prosecution Office. It was said that an arrest warrant had been issued against them due to suspicions related to corruption.

But the Special Prosecution Office did not come up with any official announcement regarding the arrest warrants, much less with the details of the charges against the three people, but it was announced that among those arrested was the head of the Tirana Road, a career officer, who was placed at the head of this police structure as a necessary innovation to change the 'face' of the police after the various competitions that took place in the State Police.

But, the chief police officer of Tirana Street also took his subordinate with him, who was also arrested.

In fact, they were said to have an arrest warrant against them, but they were later seen surrendering to the Tirana Police.

The suspicions are related to an accident that occurred 5 days ago in Tirana, an accident that was caused by a woman. It is suspected that the woman requested that the accident be closed while promising that her husband would give her a bribe for the work they would do.

It is suspected that the latter was being wiretapped, but it is not known what he was being wiretapped for and, as a result, what he was under investigation for.

Referring to unofficial data, it is reported that SPAK has issued three arrest warrants against 3 Traffic Police officers in Tirana on suspicion of corruption.

As unofficially reported, the head of the traffic police station, Roven Zeka, the head of the investigation of automobile accidents, Sokol Novaku, and traffic police officer Edison Tabaku are suspected of corruption.

The wiretaps revealed that the crime scene investigation officer had mentioned his two superiors in the traffic police to change the results of a car accident.

The case was investigated by special prosecutors who were set in motion after a road accident in the capital, an event for which there are suspicions that the money was paid by a female citizen to the judicial police officer.

It remains unclear how much money was demanded and whether there were any life-threatening consequences from this accident. But what is explained is the fact that officer Edison Tabaku inspected the scene, while he then communicated with the head of the accident line, Sokol Novaku, also with a restraining order.

Because he is mentioned by the two officers, the arrest warrant has also been signed against Zeka, appointed to this position in mid-December 2024. In addition to Zeka, who surrendered, the BKH has arrested the other two, while the actions continue to be carried out by investigators from the National Bureau of Investigation.

The accident occurred on April 16, 2025 in Tirana and the vehicle was driven by citizen AV. The intercepts show that the money was paid to judicial police officer Tabaku by the driver's husband.

The judicial police officer, according to the prosecutor in the case who signed the restraining orders and for the other two, Zeka and Novak, mentions the names of their superiors. It will be the judge of the measure who will assess whether, apart from the conversations of the officer who conducted the investigation into the accident in question, there is evidence beyond any reasonable doubt.

Zeka and Novak are known to have worked together previously at Police Station No. 2, in the crime investigation sector, and then transferred to the Traffic Police.

The Special Prosecution Office is now expected to provide details on the suspicion of corruption at the top of a sector that is contested by many citizens, who continue to complain about large and unfair fines for which they have no place to complain. It was said that in addition to the BKH, the Police Supervision Agency itself also participated in the operation.
