A 36-year-old Albanian man wanted for more than a year was arrested while hiding in Barcelona, ​​Spain.

An arrest warrant was issued against him by the Perugia prosecutor's office in Italy and the justice system sentenced him to imprisonment. The Albanian must serve 3 years and 9 months in prison for cocaine trafficking and extortion. Wanted since January 2024 and on the run for more than a year, he was tracked down and arrested in Catalonia.

"The measure follows a final sentence of 6 years and 8 months, handed down in May 2022, for crimes dating back to September 2014. In Francavilla al Mare, the 36-year-old had sold 150 grams of cocaine to another Italian. After the drugs were not paid for, he threatened the victim with threatening phrases, including "I'll cut off your ears", forcing him to give 2,000 euros", informs Italian media.

After the trial ended, he escaped conviction and disappeared. Search efforts, coordinated by the Perugia Public Prosecutor's Office through its SDI Office and carried out in collaboration with the Central Criminal Police Cooperation Service in Rome, allowed the reconstruction of his movements abroad.

Initial leads had led to Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The wanted man then moved to Spain, first settling in Lloret de Mar and then in Arenys de Mar.

But recently, on February 26, the Mossos d'Esquadra police search teams located him and intervened by executing the European arrest warrant, it is further reported . The 36-year-old is currently being held in Spain, awaiting extradition to Italy, where he will serve the remainder of his sentence.
