The Director of the ARA, Gentian Gjyli, appears at SPAK

The Director of the Albanian Anti-Corruption Agency, Gentian Gjyli, appeared again today at the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK).

It is not yet known why Gjyli was summoned to SAPK, but it appears to be related to the investigations into the former head of the Albanian Anti-Corruption Agency, Evis Berberi.

We recall that Gjyli was also summoned to SPAK in January 2024 regarding this matter, where he remained there for about two hours.

He testified about the procedures followed in road tenders, during the time he was number 2 of the ARRSH and director Evis Berberi, in an investigation by SPAK under the security measure 'arrest with imprisonment'.

Gentian Gjyli was appointed director of the ARRSH on March 28, 2024, a week after the arrest by SPAK of the former director, Evis Berberi, a close associate of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.

Gjyli was an internal appointment within the ranks of the ARA. He previously held the position of Head of the Projects Sector and most recently that of Deputy Director General of the ARA.

Evis Berberi was arrested on March 14, 2024 by order of SPAK after being accused of passive corruption and money laundering. SPAK uncovered the scheme in which Berberi, during his time as head of the Energy Efficiency Agency, but also recently as head of the ARRSH, had awarded 6 tenders to his partner Valter Begaj's company and then the profits were transferred to the company he indirectly owned.
