Will testimony from a convicted drug trafficker cost the prosecutor dearly?

In the trial before the Hanover District Court, a cocaine trafficker made serious accusations against the prosecutor, who is being investigated for bribery.

The witness is Besim M. (41 years old). Since October 2024, this Albanian with numerous precedents has been serving a six-year sentence for drug trafficking.

During a meeting at Lake Maschsee in Hanover, according to his statement on Thursday, the alleged head of the cocaine mafia revealed to him the identity of the "urith" (secret collaborator).

With a stony face, the defendant, prosecutor Yashar G. – who recently celebrated his 40th birthday in custody – listened to the witness's testimony.

He is accused of supplying Germany's largest drug syndicate with information in exchange for money, including surveillance and raids.

The gang was discovered when it tried to smuggle 16 tons of cocaine out of the port of Hamburg. The lead investigator against the group was Yashar G. from the Hanover Public Prosecutor's Office.

“In 2019 I met him for the first time in a Greek restaurant,” Besim M. told the judge. He did not know Yashar G. at the time and did not know anything about his function. In a small group he was introduced to him as “a friend”. Other meetings followed, including in the VIP section during a Hannover 96 match. “He was celebrating and a little drunk,” the Albanian recalled.

Besim M., who is a loyalist of drug lord Konstantinos S. (42), claims that during a walk near Lake Maschsee he learned the truth from the Greek-German: "He told me that there is a prosecutor who pays him, and he said the name Yashar. This was a real scandal. A policeman can be corrupted. But a prosecutor? This was dangerous. Only very few people knew."

He paid the informant 5,000 euros a month for information, Konstantinos S. had told him before he was arrested. Before his arrest, Konstantinos S. had fled to Dubai.

To avoid being understood that the traffickers in the coded organized crime chat Sky ECC were talking about a prosecutor, according to the indictment they used the code “Cop” for Yashar G. – and according to Besimi, a police emoji was also added for disguise.

How dangerous is this evidence for the prosecutor?

Yashar G. reacted angrily: "The story has a tiny grain of truth. The witness has built a very sophisticated lie on it." His lawyer Timo Rahn told BILD: "A very suspicious statement."
