New details have been revealed from the serious incident that occurred in Gjirokastra, where a 15-year-old boy hanged himself and was found in his apartment by his family, who also took him to the hospital without signs of life, at around 1:30 p.m. on April 20.
In an interview on the Open Heart show on News24, with author Evis Ahmetim, the minor's friend shared some untold details in this story.
He said that he had a close friendship with Veip and spent a lot of time with him. According to him, the 15-year-old had had some family problems, but it had nothing to do with the family's marital situation.
He further denied that Veip had been bullied by others, adding that he was a very social person.
The friend emphasized that he was not aware that he had any problems that were bothering him as he did not show any signs of sadness.
"I met Veip at the beginning of the 10th grade. He was the first friend I made in class. We became friends very quickly. I personally had him as a close friend and I would hang out with him all day. We were in the same class and sat together most of the time. His family had no economic problems. They were a regular family and in good financial condition.
Veip was never bullied. Personally, I still can't understand why he did it, but from what I've seen and heard, they say he had family problems. I last met him on Friday after we finished school, he walked me home. We just had a normal conversation, nothing special like every day. He didn't show any signs of sadness, if he had expressed it, I would have asked him for more to help him. I don't know his girlfriend, but he always mentioned her," he said.
During the conversation, he also spoke about an event that had occurred before the 15-year-old's suicide. He said that the mother had reported Veip after seeing a video that had been sent to her, in which Veip was seen attempting to strangle a younger child, but he stressed that everything had been just a joke.
Another touching detail in this story was the absence of the minor's father, who, according to the friend's statement, he met very rarely.
He also said that his mother had never paid attention to him and that she was aware that he might do such an act, but according to her, Veipi did it because he wanted attention.
"A day earlier, his mother had reported her son to the police on Friday for violence, because some time ago they were with their friends playing games and joking with each other while wrestling in the village. A video was made of Veipi struggling with another younger child and trying to strangle him, but it was just a joke. The mother was not impressed at all.
"I don't know if he spoke to anyone that his mother had reported him. He had admitted it to his friends in the village on the day of the incident and if they had reacted, there would have been no time. His father was not around. He had a good relationship with him, but he met him very rarely and spent very little time with him. He had told his mother that he was going to commit suicide, but she had told others that he was doing it to attract attention," the 15-year-old's friend emphasized.
He said that a few days before the serious incident, Veipi had left a letter, which according to him would explain the reason for the decision for the tragic act. Friends had not taken it very seriously because they thought it was a joke, but according to him, the minor had recently shared on the social network Tik-Tok about the suicide he was going to commit.
The 15-year-old's friend concluded his story by emphasizing once again that the cause of his suicide could be his family because his mother had never been there for him.
"I asked some of his cousins and they told me that around 1 pm after he had gone home because he had gone out with friends in the village, he had also mentioned a letter that if he died there he would explain everything. That day he sent me some photos that we had together after we had played PlayStation. We all thought it was a joke that he would commit suicide because he was a very good person psychologically and had not shown any problems.
"He had recently started making some posts on Tik-Tok about suicide. He was a very social person. One day his van had gone missing and he called his mom and asked her when she was going to pick it up because there was a big bridge there. I think the reason for the suicide was family because his mom was never there for him," he concluded.
