Albanian youth escapes from police in Italy, 60 km chase ends in accident
A movie-like chase rocked the Umbria area yesterday evening, when a 30-year-old Albanian man disobeyed a police stop order and was involved in a dangerous escape that lasted more than 60 kilometers.

It all started in the Borgo Bovio neighborhood, on the 'Via Val D'Aosta' road in Terni, when the young man, driving a vehicle, refused to stop for a check and drove away at high speed.

During the escape, he performed extremely dangerous maneuvers, including overtaking in the opposite direction and repeated violations of traffic rules, seriously endangering his own life and that of other road users.

The escape continued on the 'Via Tre Venezie' road and then towards Rieti via the SS79 Bis road, where at one point, one of the police patrols was forced to brake in an emergency to avoid a collision with an oncoming truck. The danger continued even further, when the 30-year-old made a sudden turn near Contigliano, taking the opposite direction towards Terni and then entering the E45 motorway.

After more than half an hour of intense pursuit, the escape ended in Montecastrilli, where the Albanian's vehicle collided with another car driven by a 40-year-old Italian. The accident ended the pursuit and police were able to arrest the suspect.

According to authorities, the 30-year-old was arrested for resisting police and dangerous driving. The Terni court confirmed the arrest and imposed a ban on him from staying in the city of Terni.

Meanwhile, Prefect Michele Abenante has signed the order for his transfer to a Repatriation Reception Center (CPR), from where he will be definitively expelled from Italian territory.

The incident has sparked great concern among public opinion, while Italian authorities have praised the coordinated police operation that made the arrest possible without more serious consequences.
