Former head of the High Prosecutorial Council Alfred Balla, explodes the bomb: Laert Haxhiu ordered my execution!
In the second episode of the podcast "Ma Shqip me Flamur Vezaj", the former head of the High Prosecutor's Council, Alfred Balla, recounts for the first time how he was followed and monitored to be executed on the orders of the leader of the famous Lushnja gang, Laert Haxhiu. He tells in detail how the assassination attempt on him was planned according to the same scheme that was used against two prosecutors, one in Lushnja and the other in SPAK, and how he is today guarded 24 hours a day by the State Police. The discovery of the assassination, according to Balla, came after the testimony of a repentant justice official, who revealed the entire scheme of the ordered murder.
During the interview, Balla goes back in time, to the dark years of 1997 in Lushnje, when arrestees were tied to trees and gangs burned down court and prosecutorial buildings, a period that he experienced as a prosecutor in the field, until the clash with the Prosecutor General of the time, whom he describes as a representative of the communist mindset. The strong clash of that time led to his departure from the system, but not from the desire for justice.
In this exclusive interview, he also talks about the behind-the-scenes of Altin Dumani's election as head of SPAK and the role of the US Embassy in this process, as well as how the KLP made the final decision. He also reveals the name he himself would prefer as Dumani's successor as head of SPAK, while dwelling on how he himself was excluded from the system by a decision of three members of the Special Appeals Board: Ina Rama, Sokol Çomo and Rezarta Shultz.
Balla also raises questions about the justice reform and calls it a project seized by those who drafted it or with the same people, where according to him, " there is no new justice with old people."
On the other hand, Sokol Sadushi, Ilir Panda, Albert Rakipi, Gent Ibrahimi and Artur Metani, who after drafting the laws positioned themselves at the head of the new institutions. He says that some with merit and some with the help of politics!
The interview also discusses the selective vetting decisions, where prosecutors and judges with integrity were removed while many corrupt ones remained in the system. Journalist Vezaj mentioned the case of Ina Rama as a banality of enrichment in Albania, by changing the bank where prosecutors' salaries were transferred and then herself benefiting from soft loans from the same bank, adding that her wealth is unjustified. The case of Natasha Mulaj is also mentioned as an example of distorted justice, where nothing was investigated about the assets, while others were punished without facts.
According to Balla, the justice reform was necessary, but the way it was implemented, with double criteria and clientelistic selection. He expresses his disappointment at the way many honest colleagues were treated, while their careers were replaced by selected politicians or servile people of power.
