Italy, life imprisonment for parents who killed daughter for refusing to marry

The Bologna Court of Appeal sentenced the parents and cousins of Saman Abbas, the girl who was murdered four years ago in Italy, to life in prison. On the other hand, the uncle was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
The 18-year-old Pakistani girl was murdered and buried in a farmhouse near the house where her family lived in Novellara, in the province of Reggio Emilia, on the night between April 30 and May 1, 2021.
According to the Court, the young woman, who had refused a forced marriage, was killed by her entire family.
The General Prosecutor's Office had requested life imprisonment for all five defendants. But in the first instance, the parents, Shabbar Abbas, Nazia Shaheen and uncle Danish Hasnain were sentenced to life imprisonment, while cousins Noman Hulhaq and Ikram Ijaz were found not guilty.
No one ever admitted to the murder, they accused each other, but for the appeal judges the entire family is responsible for the murder of Saman Abbas. Four years after the death of the Pakistani girl, the Bologna Court, in principle, overturned the first-instance conviction and accepted the prosecution's position.
