Cancer as an epidemic, over 7 thousand new cases per year, men most affected

Cancer diseases are increasingly resembling epidemics. In Albania, over 7 thousand people have been affected by cancer in the last year alone. These diseases rank second after cardiovascular diseases in terms of loss of life. 16% of deaths in our country are caused by cancerous diseases. 

During the presentation of data until 2024, experts spoke about the increase in some tumor diseases due to lifestyle. In men, there is an increase in lung, stomach, prostate and colon cancer. 

While among women, breast cancer is the most common, with 800 new cases each year. The "Mother Teresa" Hospital Center also reports an increase in cases and hospitalizations for tumor diseases.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Evis Sala stated that improving oncology services and treating patients with serious illnesses remains her personal challenge. As in the rest of the world, projections in Albania indicate an increase in cancer cases, also due to the aging of the population, writes A2 CNN.

Men are the gender most affected by cancerous diseases, with over 3,800 cases last year, while women have 3,200 new cases.
