US President Donald Trump has said that Washington may aim to control Iran's oil industry, stressing that more time is needed to achieve the objectives in the conflict.

In a post on social media, Trump said that "with a little more time," the US could easily reopen the Strait of Hormuz, get the oil, and create huge economic benefits.

The statement comes at a time when Iran has been blocking this strategic waterway for weeks, significantly affecting global energy markets.

However, it remains unclear how the US could carry out such an intervention, while the US military itself has admitted that it is not yet ready to escort oil tankers in this dangerous area.
