3 Albanian "hawks" arrested for committing robberies in Spain

Another blow to organized crime. The Valencian Civil Guard has dismantled a gang that carried out a wave of robberies in recent months in villas in several towns in the province of Valencia. Operation "Celeron" has led to the arrest of several members of the criminal group after a laborious investigation.

The arrested persons, all Albanian citizens, are part of a criminal organization that robbed villas, some of them luxurious, in the residential areas of Betera, Paterna, Ribarroja, l'Eliana and San Antonio de Benageber, among other cities in the province of Valencia.

The thieves stole money and jewelry in a matter of minutes and took large valuables, cell phones, and other electronic devices with geolocation systems that could give them away. They operated both night and day with speed, skill, and without violence against people.

They preferred to rob unoccupied houses after they were sure they were gone. One or two individuals would enter the house while another gang member stood guard behind a dumpster or crouched inside a car. They also divided up the robberies and even replaced the gang members who carried out the robberies to thwart a possible police investigation.

The thieves were arrested in the Valencian neighborhood of La Torre and in the town of Silla. The Heritage Group of the Valencia Civil Guard Command carried out an operation, with the support of the Civil Security Unit (USECIC), to arrest several members of the gang and search their homes.

Investigators attribute a wave of robberies to the crime group after discovering the two cars they were travelling in, an Opel Insignia and a Mini, and finding the vehicles in residential areas around the same time as the crimes. Although there are no official figures on the number of robberies and reports, local police, apartment security guards and Civil Guard patrols have carried out more than 50 operations in recent months to curb the crime wave. Police cooperation has been key to identifying and arresting gang members.

The Ribarroja Local Police arrested an Albanian two weeks ago for his involvement in a robbery at a villa, but it is not known if this person has any connection to the gang dismantled by the Civil Guard. Another man who was with him managed to escape after jumping over a fence and the officers who pursued the suspect lost track of him on the border between Ribarroja and l'Eliana.

Investigators attribute a dozen robberies committed in recent months in the residential areas of Mas Camarena and Torre en Conill to the gang. The latter has a private security service that patrols every day of the week using electric vehicles (quieter than petrol or diesel vehicles) to avoid waking up neighbors at night. The patrol cars also carry powerful spotlights to illuminate the darker areas near the golf course.

The thieves usually operated between 7am and 10pm, so plainclothes Guardia Civil officers carried out surveillance operations during that time. Investigators used technological tools to find and track the criminals, which has led to the unraveling of a large number of robberies in at least five locations in the province of Valencia. Other places where the gang operated include Monte Alcedo, Les Teules, Colinas de San Antonio, Montesano and San Vicente, according to investigations by the Heritage Group of the Guardia Civil of Valencia.
