Sad morning! The former candidate of the Municipality of Tirana, Arben Tafaj,

The former independent candidate of Tirana Municipality Arben Tafaj has passed away.

The news of his loss was announced by the doctor Ilir Alimehmeti, who expressed his condolences to the Tafaj family through a post on social networks.

It was with deep sadness that I was informed of the sudden death of Mr. Arben Tafaj, who was not only a friend, but also an elite citizen, a constant activist and a prominent politician with always moderate civic tones.

The loss of Ben is definitely a bitter loss for his family and friends, but it is also a great loss for the citizens and the city of Tirana! Condolences to the Tafaj family for the loss of a beloved, wise and prudent man. We will miss you Ben ," Alimehmeti writes.

Who was Arben Tafaj?

Arben Tafaj, economist by profession (he graduated from the Faculty of Economics in 1986), the journey to compete for the highest post of the big municipality, that of Tirana, has the richest records than all his announced rivals and still unannounced by the parties and independents. Tafaj, is the official elected by the votes of the citizens for three consecutive mandates, where each time he has progressively increased his votes. The mayor of municipal unit number 8 started his political "adventure" in the 2003 elections where he won 4,570 votes, or 48.65%. In the 2007 elections, he received 6,734 votes, or 56.85%, and in the 2011 elections, Arben Tafaj won 9,634 votes, or 59.21%.

Together with some of his friends, he led the "Tirana" association, a civil group that for all these years has promoted the values of the city's cultural and civic heritage, which it has seen as an instrument to communicate with society and important homologous community organisms. Right at the head of the "Tirana" association, Arben Tafaj, creates the profile of a leader who communicates, throws ideas, but also strongly defends the values of the people he represented.

He did this even after he was elected as the mayor of municipal unit number 8 with the proposal of the "Tirana" association. Although there was not much fuss, Arben Tafaj was the direct proponent and lobbyist of the construction of the pedestrian walkway on "Murat Toptani" street, when the foundations of the old Tirana Castle were laid. At that time, Tafaj grouped together the officials of the municipality headed by Edi Rama and the governors of Berisha to stop the passage of vehicles in a place with historical heritage for the capital. "Murat Toptani" is the only road in Tirana where cars are not allowed.
