Built without a permit/House arrest for Saranda Police officer, Ajdin Islamaj

The Police Supervision Agency (AMP) has uncovered new evidence in the investigation against Police officer Ajdin Islamaj, former Crime Investigation Specialist at the Saranda Police Station.
According to AMP, on a property in his father's name, where Islamaj also lives, an additional floor was built without permission on top of an existing two-story building, and other works were carried out to adapt the facility for hotel activities.
The technical expertise has confirmed that this is a new construction, for which a building permit was required, while verifications do not indicate that such a permit has been issued.
Investigations have revealed that the illegally constructed area is at least 159 square meters and is used as a hotel.
According to AMP, satellite image analyses show that the works were carried out during 2025, a period when Ajdin Islamaj was in office in the area.
Investigations continue under the direction of the Saranda Prosecutor's Office.
The Police Supervision Agency (AMP), following the investigations conducted under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Saranda, has documented new facts and evidence related to criminal proceedings 304/2026, where the police officer Ajdin Islamaj, at that time with the duty of Specialist for Crime Investigation at the Saranda Police Station, is also under investigation.
The technical expertise report administered within the framework of the investigation has resulted in the fact that on the property owned by the father of the citizen under investigation, where Ajdin Islamaj resides, construction works were carried out without the relevant permission of the competent authorities, consisting of the addition of a floor to an existing two-story building, as well as other construction and reconstruction interventions with the aim of changing the destination of the building to an accommodation function (hotel).
According to the conclusions of licensed experts, the constructed structure constitutes new construction within the meaning of the legislation on territorial planning and development and for its construction a building permit was required from the competent authorities.
From the verifications carried out, it does not appear that any building permit has been approved for the construction of this additional floor.
Investigations have revealed that the area built without a permit is no less than 159 m² with a hotel function.
Also, based on the analysis of satellite images and investigations, it has been proven that the works were carried out during 2025, during which time the area was covered.
AMP believes that respect for the law should be the first and non-negotiable standard for every police officer. Citizens' trust in law enforcement institutions is severely undermined when public officials themselves are suspected of violating the law they are obligated to enforce and protect.
Investigations continue to fully document criminal responsibilities, identify each person involved, and verify the circumstances that enabled the realization of these constructions in violation of applicable legislation.
The Police Supervision Agency remains committed to its mission to crack down on any form of illegality, without any distinction of function, duty or position, ensuring that no one is above the law and that the integrity of the uniform is protected through impartial enforcement of the law.
On Thursday evening, a search was conducted at the apartment of former officer Ajdin Islamaj, whose mobile phones were seized by decision of the Prosecutor's Office.
