Sidorel Prendi was suspected of being involved in numerous feuds with well-known figures in the criminal world in Kurbin, Lezhë and Fushë-Krujë. Some of these clashes were related to territory, large debts, or broken deals.
"Organized crime is involved in drug trafficking in Albania and beyond, as money is required to commit and conceal those crimes, and through narcotics, the necessary means are provided to then cover up the crimes of murder or revenge to eliminate similar groups," said Dea Toçi, lawyer.
"We are dealing with characters who are very individualistic, somewhere the individuality of these characters will come out and I have the impression that in this case Rohan Ibrahimi wanted to be different," said Xhevahir Zhabina, journalist.
Sidorel Prendi, born on March 14, 1992 in the village of Pllanë in Lezha, with family roots in Krujë, was a well-known name to the police. In September 2014, he became the target of a structured criminal group from Mirdita. Seven people planned to kidnap and execute him, but thanks to the reaction of the police, which under the direction of the former Serious Crimes Prosecutor's Office, intervened in time and arrested the people involved.
The operation took place on the Lezhë–Kurbin axis, where the assassins had targeted Sidorel Prendi's car. For two weeks, Sidorel Prendi was followed in Tirana and Lezhë. The objective was clear: his elimination. At the time, 22 years old, "Sidi" was not simply the victim of a banal conflict, but the target of a well-organized order.
"He is a person who has been rumored as a participant or organizer and financier of several criminal events, where important figures from the underworld of Lezha, Kurbin and Fushë-Krujë were executed, and he is a person who has had his own enmities," said lawyer Alban Qafa.
"A conglomerate and a vicious circle have been created here, where many people can be convicted, many proceedings can be initiated or people can be taken as defendants, but it is very difficult to break the chain of blood feuds, because now blood feuds, even by canon law, are not blood feuds, because you cannot kill another person with your bare hands, blood feuds are something else," said lawyer Ermal Hamataj.
After the attempted hostage-taking and elimination, Prendi established connections acting on behalf of several criminal groups. Due to a debt, in 2020 he entered into an open conflict with Ervis Martinaj, who at that time was considered the "King of Gambling".
In the dark world of crime, deals are not made on paper. They are sealed with words, guaranteed with a face, and when words are broken, there is no going back. The story of the clash between Sidorel Prendi and Ervis Martinaj is the story of a betrayal of trust, which later turned into a war of no return.
"We have discussed information that we have with sources, but we are unable to verify using documents or accessing these documents. The conflict was fierce between the two at the beginning, and of course then the whole chain of killings began," said journalist Xhevahir Zhabina.
