The Italian-Albanian entrepreneur Muharem Saljihu is running for the European elections with the "United States of Europe".

United States of Europe candidate Muharem Saljihu (Marco) born May 25, 1968 in Tupale, the former Yugoslavia, is an Italian-Albanian entrepreneur and philanthropist.

He has lived in Venice for more than thirty years, where he devotes himself not only to running several restaurants and commercial activities, but also to diplomacy and activism for minority rights.

After graduating in Economics and Finance at the University of Zug, Switzerland, Marco founded MELA Holding Group Srl in Venice, which includes four companies. Through these businesses, he promotes a stable and ever-expanding economy, with investment prospects in other parts of Europe.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activity, Marco is an academic authority at unicampushetg.ch, where he shares his experience and knowledge in the field of International Relations. He is an executive member of the International Council at the Albanian-American Civic League and serves on the Board of Directors of the Council of Albanian Ambassadors.

For his engagement in the Western Balkans, Marko was awarded the title of 'Knight of the Order of Skanderbeg' by the President of the Republic of Albania. His long political career includes the position of MP in the Municipality of Medveje, Serbia, where he worked tirelessly to encourage the local community to stay in their country. Thanks to investments and non-governmental activities, it has contributed significantly to the economic development of the region. His direct experience on the ground and his strategic vision to strengthen the ties between Italy, the EU and the Western Balkans distinguish him as a leader capable of tackling regional challenges and promoting closer cooperation between European nations. Author of numerous books and publications on equal human rights and economic prosperity, Marco is also a promoter of Italian sport and culture in various countries through various projects and exhibitions in national museums. Marco is currently a candidate in the European elections of June 8 and 9, 2024 in the North-East constituency with + Europe in the "United States of Europe" coalition.

"Europe is not complete without the Albanian people and the Balkans", asserts Marco Saljihu. "With my social and political commitment, I want to work on a gradual process of integration based on common cultural and historical roots."

The political objective of the candidacy is to represent in particular the Italo-Albanian community, strongly rooted throughout North-Eastern Italy, especially in Emilia Romagna and all minorities.

"The fight against inequalities and social injustices at the highest levels makes it possible not only to increase people's well-being, but also to prevent the conflicts and wars that continue to bleed our land today," adds Marco.

The topic of human rights will be the starting point of his battles within the European institutions. The engagement in the parliament will also be oriented towards strengthening projects and initiatives that have a direct impact on the Balkan communities, creating an even more solid bridge of connection between Italy-Albania-Europe, starting with the "Interreg" and "Adrion" cooperation programs.

To improve the impact of these programs, both planning skills and strong partnership ties are needed and in this Marco aims to make a difference to further strengthen the action of Emilia Romagna, already the leader of many initiatives at macro-regional level in this field.

For historical, cultural and geographical reasons, Northeastern Italy is already closely connected with the Western Balkans, with the right guidelines it can play the role of "precursor" for this process of ever-increasing integration within European and cross-border cooperation.
