Today, November 28, is Independence Day that unites Albanians everywhere.

Today in Albania we remember Independence Day. The day when Albania declared itself independent, in Vlora, on November 28, 1912, by Ismail Qemali.
The declaration of independence was attended by 83 delegates from all Albanian regions, but 40 were the signatories who signed the Act of Independence. On this 113th anniversary, Albanians everywhere are celebrating, united in mind and heart around the national flag.
The date 28 is special for Albanians, since on this date, in two different years, two historical events have occurred for Albania. On November 28, 1443, the national hero Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg liberated Kruja from the Ottoman occupation and raised the flag over its castle. This date opened a new page in the history of the centuries-old anti-Ottoman resistance. The Lord of Arbëria, as Gjergj Kastriot signed himself, left the battlefield of Niš, to head for Kruja at the head of 300 knights.
469 years later, on November 28, 1912, also called "November the Second", the Independence of Albania was declared by Ismail Qemaili who raised the flag in Vlora.
November 28 has also been declared a holiday in the Republic of Kosovo.
On November 28, 1912, Ismail Qemali declared the Independence of Albania, stating " With one voice they decided that Albania would become independent, free and independent."
Ismail Qemali had set off on November 19 from Trieste towards the coast of Albania to declare independence.
On November 21, he would land in Durrës from the Austrian Lloyd's steamer "Baron Bruck". In this city, Dom Nikollë Kacorri was received in the cell, who would become the first deputy prime minister of the government of November 28 a week later. According to the correspondence between Eqrem Bey Vlorës and Mustafa Kruja, the flag raising was intended to take place on November 22 in Durrës, in order to prevent the further advance of the invading armies into the country's territory.
But, due to the tense situation in the city, Ismail Qemali telegraphed the delegates from all over the country to head to his hometown, Vlora.
While Serbian forces were rapidly advancing towards Central Albania, the patriotic districts of Elbasan (November 25), Tirana and Durrës (November 26), Kavaja, Peqin and Lushnja (November 27), raised the national flag, without waiting for the meeting of the Vlora Assembly.
An interesting fact is that Radio Tirana first began broadcasting on November 28, 1938. While on November 28, 1955, the legendary commander, Adem Jashari, was born.
