Cocaine trafficking with SKY ECC, wanted Albanian arrested at Fiumicino airport

A 37-year-old Albanian man accused of international drug trafficking has been arrested in Italy.

According to Italian media reports, the 37-year-old was arrested at Fiumicino Airport in Rome upon landing from Spain.

There was an international arrest warrant for the 37-year-old Albanian, after he was discovered as part of a well-organized drug trafficking network through intercepts of the 'SKY ECC' platform.

The investigation revealed that the Albanian, whose name is not being disclosed, had numerous conversations, on which charges were filed, as he used them to manage the importation of large quantities of narcotics from abroad.

The operation was carried out in March of this year, when 5 arrest warrants were executed, but the 37-year-old was not in the country, as he was arrested in Spain. The distribution and trafficking was carried out by communicating precisely on this cryptophonic network and the suspects are mainly Albanian citizens.

The Albanian had been living in Bologna for years and had moved to Spain in 2022, where he was in custody for drug trafficking. He was found with 2,167 cannabis plants, 52.90 grams of marijuana buds, 580 distilled THC tablets and 1,121 grams of distilled THC tablets.

The Albanian is suspected of using his criminal connections to import cocaine with a high active ingredient.

According to the investigation, from March to December 2020, he was able to bring a total of 50 kilograms of cocaine (with a commercial purchase value of 1.7 million euros) and 80 kilograms of marijuana (around 300 thousand euros) to Italy.

As soon as he landed in Italy, in Fiumicino, he was notified of the security measure in question along with the final sentence of 2 years and 8 months in prison, in addition to paying a fine of 12 thousand euros.

He had also been arrested on April 30, 2019, while in Bologna. At that time, he was caught in the underground parking lot of the 'Centro Lame' shopping center on Via Marco Polo, with 150 grams of cocaine intended for sale and was a person with a criminal record in this field.
