Seven years after the murder of young Antonio Karafili in Voskopoja, Korça, the prosecutor's office of this city, after an in-depth investigation, has managed to identify the two perpetrators of the crime, citizens Rexhep Vathi and Kejsi Spaillari.

According to the investigation, Kejsi Spaillari, then 18 years old, together with her boyfriend Rexhep Vathi, strangled the lifeless body of Antonio Karafili with a sheet and then hung it from a pine tree, with the aim of creating the impression among the police that the young man had committed suicide.

The Korça prosecutor's office, Vasjana Postoli, has now issued a "prison arrest" warrant against Spaillari on the charge of "Intentional Murder" committed in collaboration.

Meanwhile, no arrest warrant has been issued for Rexhep Vathi, as he died as a result of a suicide he committed.

Kejsi Spaillari was discovered by a biological DNA trace, which was found on the sheet with which Antonio Karafili was tied around his neck.

Currently, Spaillari has left Korça, settling in Canada.

The same evidence has been provided for the other author who is no longer alive, Rexhep Vathin.

The crime occurred in 2018 and was motivated by the sentimental relationship that Kejsi Spaillari had created in parallel with the victim Antonio Karafili and the perpetrator of the crime, Rexhep Vathi.

After the police discovered the body tied to a pine tree in Voskopoja, they initially registered the incident on the charge of "Causing suicide."

Initially, the investigations carried out did not bring productivity, leading the prosecution to request the termination of the criminal prosecution.

But the Korça judge, Arben Lena, decided to return the file for reinvestigation, forcing the prosecution to focus the investigation on the charge of "Intentional Murder."

However, after 7 years of investigations and a series of expert reports, it turned out that Antonio Karafili was murdered by Rexhep Vathi and his girlfriend, Kejsi Spaillari.

After the murder, the two of them tied the body to a tree, to create the impression that Antonio had hanged himself.

But a single detail changed the course of the event, as at the moment the police found the body of Antonio Karafili, he was found with his feet on the ground and not hanging completely in the air, as might happen in a typical hanging scene.

Victim Antonio Karafili did not have any traces of pine bark on his hands or nails, a detail that convinced the prosecution that the victim had not climbed the tree just to tie the sheet with which he hanged himself.

According to the investigative file, the person who last saw Antonio alive, on June 14, 2018, was his girlfriend, Kejsi Spaillari, at the time 17 years old from Korça.

She says that that day around 5:00 PM, they met with her uncle and his uncle's son to resolve a fight between the latter and Antonio.

The debate ended and Antonio and Kejsi went to Voskopoja, to Antonio's parents' bar, "Taverna Michel".

They separated and around 8:00 PM, Kejsi, her mother, and her boyfriend's brother headed up to Voskopoja.

At this point, the deceased's mother, Mimoza Karafili, tells in detail how she was informed by the boy's girlfriend that Antonio had committed suicide and she herself found him tied and lifeless to a pine tree.

The victim's parents suspected from the beginning that their son did not hang himself, but was murdered.
