Albanian man caught with 23 kg of cocaine sentenced to prison in Belgium

The Brussels Criminal Court sentenced an Albanian man to 40 months in prison on Monday for transporting 23 kilograms of cocaine.

The drugs were hidden in a hidden compartment of his car. The man, who had previously been released after posting bail, failed to appear in court and was sentenced in absentia.

The Albanian was caught during a traffic stop by the Federal Highway Police. Since he was visibly nervous during the stop, the officers decided to carefully search his vehicle. They found packages of cocaine hidden in the center console and under the passenger seat.

A more intensive search revealed a hidden compartment in the vehicle containing 21 more packages of cocaine. In total, the weight was 23 kilograms.

The man admitted the facts and stated that he had been promised 5,000 euros to carry out the transport. Since the hidden compartment turned out to be too small, he had hidden two packages elsewhere in the car.

The suspect had a permanent address and was released after posting a bail of 10,000 euros. However, he did not appear at the hearing of the case.

The court ultimately sentenced the man to 40 months in prison and ordered his immediate arrest. The 10,000 euros that served as bail were declared confiscated.
