The Union of Journalists condemns the violence against journalist Gjergj Zefi: The threat to freedom of speech is an alarm bell

Journalist and publisher of the 'Pamphlet' portal, Gjergj Zefi was assaulted yesterday with hard objects in Tirana as soon as he left the office. The Union of Albanian Journalists reacted to this act of banditry.

Through a post on social networks, UGSH calls on the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Unioni i Gazetarëve Shqiptarë dënon ashpër dhunën e ushtruar ndaj gazetarit Gjergj Zefi, mbasditen e së martës më 3 Tetor 2023, në një ndër rrugët e Tiranës. Goditjet fizike me mjete të forta mbi gazetarin, lëndimet e tij, përbëjnë një akt të rëndë. UGSH u bën thirrje autoriteteve të shtetit, të gjejnë menjëherë autorin dhe ta çojnë para drejtësisë.

Dhuna fizike ndaj gazetarëve është një akt i papranueshëm në një shoqëri normale. Unioni i Gazetarëve Shqiptarë, kërkon ndaj institucioneve dhe autoriteteve të vendit, që të parandalojnë dhe të mos përkrahin klimën e kërcënimit ndaj reporterëve dhe redaktorëve të mediave.

The freer a media is, the freer the society. The threat of violence against freedom of speech is an alarm bell for all citizens, while physical aggression against media workers is a serious crime with consequences for the whole society ", states the reaction of the UGSH.

Meanwhile, the police have identified the owner of the perpetrators' car, and it is the citizen Renato Bodurri from Elbasani.
