Italian authorities have revealed the motive for the murder of 23-year-old Albanian Klajdi Bitri, by 28-year-old Algerian Fatah Melloul, on August 27, 2023.

It all started after a fight between the perpetrator, the victim, the Albanian's brother and cousin on a street in the Ancona area. Investigations have revealed that the Algerian hit Klajdi Bitri with a fishing rifle, in revenge for the punch he gave him during the conflict.

"Melloul shot to kill, bringing to fruition a criminal plan that he had formulated in a moment of calm after being punched by the victim," the lawyer says in the reasoning for the decision.

It is learned that the 28-year-old Algerian, already sentenced to 18 years in prison for intentional murder, because he was alone and there were three Albanians, hinted that he was leaving the fight by running towards his car, but all of this, according to the judge, was an exaggeration on his part.

After going to his car, Fatah Melloul pulled out his fishing rifle and shot Klajdi Bitri from a distance of about 2.5 meters, hitting him in the chest and leaving him dead on the spot.

The court emphasized that what prompted the 28-year-old to act was the intervention of his Albanian brothers, and specifically, Klajdi's older brother, who punched him. It was for that punch, according to the judges, that Melloul wanted revenge.

"The defendant, realizing that he could not dominate the situation because they were outnumbered, did not react and headed towards his car, giving the impression that he was leaving. But this was only a facade, because his intention was quite the opposite," says the judge.

They argue that the Algerian could have left after the fight was over, but he chose to kill the young man. There was no dangerous situation that justified the use of the gun that Melloul had in the car.

Even his girlfriend showed no signs of panic after he committed the murder, and even bent down to pick up her partner's glasses that had fallen during the confrontation with the victim and his friends.

The court ruled out the possibility that the murder weapon had been used manually, because it would not have been easy to hit without being attached to the rifle.
