Election of the new Director of the AMF, at least four candidates in the race

At the end of September, the Prime Minister's Office closed the phase of applications for the selection of the candidate who will be proposed to the Assembly of Albania for the position of Executive Director General of the Financial Supervision Authority.
This position remained vacant last month, after Ervin Mete was released from office to be appointed as the Minister of Finance and Economy.
The Prime Minister's Office has not yet published an official list of candidates who have applied. However, according to sources from the market, at least four candidates have applied in the process: Pajtim Melani, Redi Lleshi, Armand Reveli and Petrit Perhati.
Pajtim Melani held the position of Chairman of the Board of the Financial Supervision Authority between 2015 and 2019, while in 2020 he also ran for the post of General Executive Director. In addition to his duties as a non-executive member of the AMF Board, Melani has also held leadership positions in the Competition Authority and the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority. He holds the scientific title "Doctor" from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tirana.
The candidate Redi Lleshi comes from the office of the Prime Minister and holds the position of advisor to the Chief Negotiator for Integration in the European Union. Earlier, Redi Lleshi held leadership positions in the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and in the Ministry of European Integration.
Armand Reveli deri vitin e kaluar ka mbajtur detyrën e Drejtorit të Institutit të Sigurisë Ushqimore dhe Veterinarisë, ndërsa më herët ka qenë Drejtor i Auditit në Ministrinë e Infrastrukturës dhe Energjisë.

Një emër tjetër që ka qarkulluar në javët e fundi ka qenë ai i zëvendësministres së Financave dhe Ekonomisë, Vasilika Vjero. Megjithatë, sipas burimeve jozyrtare, ajo nuk rezulton në listën e kandidatëve që kanë aplikuar për këtë pozicion pranë Kryeministrisë.
Sipas ligjit për Autoritetin e Mbikëqyrjes Financiare, në rast të lirimit nga detyra të ndonjërit prej anëtarëve të Bordit përpara afatit, anëtari tjetër emërohet me të njëjtën procedurë, siç është emëruar anëtari që lirohet, për periudhën deri në përfundim të mandatit të anëtarit që lirohet. Bazuar mbi këtë përcaktim ligjor, anëtari i Bordit që do të marrë detyrën e Drejtorit Ekzekutiv nuk do të ketë një mandat të plotë 5-vjeçar, por një mandat të pjesshëm, deri në vitin 2025, kur mbyllej mandati i drejtorit të mëparshëm. Për shkak se mandati do të jetë i pjesshëm, afërsisht një vit e gjysëm, interesi i kandidatëve të mundshëm në këtë proces mund të jetë i kufizuar.
According to the law, the member of the Board, who will hold the function of the General Executive Director, is appointed by the Assembly, with the proposal of the Council of Ministers, after a selection procedure.
The law requires that the candidate for AMF Board Member has completed the full cycle of university studies in economic, legal or actuarial science-related fields and has at least 7 years of professional experience, of which, at least 5 years in finance-accounting, administration of commercial companies, legal consulting of commercial companies, drafting of legislation, actuarial science or social security and pensions./MONITOR
